GETTING TO KNOW ME & Poem 1, Be happy 😘

My name is Toini Itsuwe Amadhila. A teacher by occupation. Writing poems is my passion. I find it so fun, magical and interesting putting and playing with words. I do it so effortlessly and creatively. I like inspiring, expressing and showing gratitude through written poems. My favourite part in poems is figurative language, a poem is a poem when it paints imaginations and imagery.  I have read an article on Namibian literature, Wordermariam and Gowases (2020) which stated that Namibian teaching curriculum and related literature in English, is not an integral part of the Namibian Primary School education system at all. This is so sad, hopefully the gap in Namibian literature will be filled soon.

I started writing poems and short stories at a very young age. Reading have always been a huge part of my life. I am glad that as a teacher, my talent will never sit on me, I would use it and make it easier for everyone to teach literature or to enjoy the uniqueness language of poetry, especially primary school learners and teachers. I do not want my poems to only end in my classroom.  I created this blog, to showcase my talent, though creating children’s poems suitable to be used in classrooms by teachers in literature lessons. I would love to inspire and add to the creation of a generation that enjoy, love and find happiness in poetry.

I know how children are good at transforming knowledge and skills, it can be in a present time or in a long run. Poetry is a best valuable tool, when it comes to language development and enrichment. I have considered basic elements of literature, poetry devices, figurative language and other components related to the integration of language skills.

I would love to share short simple tips on how to create a poem:

1.     1.Decide what to write about.

2.     2. Decide the best topic and format for your poem.

3.     3. Explore words, include smiles, metaphors, rhymes and rhythms

4.     4. Write the poem

5.     5. Edit what you have written

6.    6.  Present your last draft

7.    7. Read out your poem and be proud of yourself

Be happy

Run and hop

Skip and jog

Lick a lollipop

Dance to Jolly

Spread your wings

You little being

Sing a song

Of endless joy
